The talented singer dropped his first body of work under his new record label titled “Signature” and the signs are already boding well for the Akwa Ibom native.

Iyanya right from his project fame days is one singer that has always been perceived by the public as one with enormous singing capabilities but there are times when he has been thought to have fallen off pace and seemed to be lagging behind development wise. Simply put he hasn’t utilized his great singing talents much more like we would have loved to see but instead resorted to mediocre songs while under his former label which he co-owned with his friend and former business partner Ubi Franklin.

His critics in the media over the past months including myself lambasted Iyanya’s lack of productivity and continuous over reliance on below par songs. Following Tekno’s sudden rise to prominence his star was somehow outshone by his fellow label mate who continued his steady rise by putting out chart topping songs and crowd favorite tunes including the overwhelmingly successful single ‘Pana’. Many saw this as a sign of his waning powers and it was felt his best days were way behind him.

Following his exit from Triple MG and his welcome to the Don Jazzy led Mavin fold the Nigeria music scene is witnessing the rejuvenation of a star. His first single ‘Up to Something’ featuring Dr Sid and Don Jazzy was just the start of a new trend for the new Mavins signing and following the release of his “Signature” EP the singer is showing us what his new move is all about.

‘Hold On’, one of the standout songs from the EP has caught fans like a bug with fans and critics pouring accolades and praises on the singer. When Don Jazzy announced the signing of Iyanya to the Mavins he reminded skeptics who questioned the wisdom in signing a fading musician to a label that otherwise had high flyers like Reekado Banks, Tiwa Savage and Korede Bello what an amazing talent Iyanya was and still is.

The much maligned artist’s move to the Mavins has proven to be a shrewd one with Don jazzy being able to bring out the best from an artiste that was thought to have lost his powers. Recently Dr Sid admitted Iyanya has been so hard working that he has made other label mates seem lazy and that only goes to prove just how much the union has worked out for the kukere crooner.

Indeed the ‘Signature’ EP from Iyanya is further evidence as to why Don Jazzy remains one of the best in the game and if one person could turn saw dust to gold dust it certainly has to be the Don baba J.
